INFECTIOUS BREAKS host the High Tide Lounge at the Drift Bar on FRIDAY 3rd JULY where switching between the beats and motorised basslines will be General Midi who in June, released the highly anticipated 2nd album Operation Overdrive on Distinct'ive and Jurassik, a DJ/Producer/Promoter behind the hedonistic Supatronix club night and record label.
General Midi are back with a killer new album Operation Overdrive. Four years in the making, the follow-up to 'Midi Style' is a dynamic return and in parts as accessible as Depeche Mode, as fly as Justice, as deadly as Dizzee and electro-rockin' like Kissy, the album is an energised future-disco audio assault. It's set to lift them beyond breakbeat boundaries and zap them into a new genetically modified dimension at a high velocity warp factor.
Emerging from the backrooms of the Bristol club scene Paul Crossman a.k.a General Midi has managed to master a ‘level crunching, dub flavoured and bass fuelled musical ride’ to his performances where his slick DJ ability and an ear for a great tune have given him regular appearances at breaks hotspots across the planet.
Together with studio partner Eelz, the pair began producing a melodic progressive house sound but soon started another project - more breaks fuelled - in 1998 and called it General Midi and they worked out that they preferred to be messin' full-time with dirty, kick-ass breakbeat.
With a succession of killer bass-rockin' singles released on some of the most respected breaks labels including TCR & Kilowatt and bigger and better gigs, the General Midi name grew synonymously with the flourishing breakbeat scene in the early noughties, and by the time they delivered their debut album 'Midi Style' to Distinctive Records in 2005 they were catapulted into the top half of its premier league. Their acclaimed 'Y4K' mix gained them further props, and the guys have remixed high-profile acts like Moby and Timo Maas, and been pretty much ever-present at the Breakspoll awards, playing at most of the events and picking up nominations and winning awards such as Best Remix in 2008 for Autobots & Screwface - Flesh Eater (General Midi remix).
General Midi productions have always been the work of both of them, but they decided early on that just Paul would go out to DJ under the name and he has honed his art so that he can be guaranteed to rock a dancefloor – any time, any place anywhere. A recent convert to the Traktor Scratch digital DJing system, he can now carry literally thousands of tracks with him when he’s on tour. Always up to date with the latest big tunes, his sets can shift through breakbeat and electro and into fidget house or techno if he feels like it. So long as it’s a killer rockin' tune, it’s in the metaphorical bag.

Jurassik has been at the forefront of the breakbeat scene for the best part of a decade, first promoting the seminal night Cryonix, then making the move to London and launching Supatronix. Now in its 6th year Supatronix has played host to the likes of: Freestylers, Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrim, Freq Nasty, Hybrid and Future Funk Squad to name but a few and has become one of Londons leading nights for a taste of subfunk fuelled breaks and party shocking electro.
Now entering the world of digital music Supatronix Records aims to keep breakbeat broken and push new talent, while supporting the remixing skills of some of the scene's more established names. With each release aimed squarely at the dance floor and a strong presence in the scene, this is a label pushing future breakbeat on an unorthodox tip with latest release Bleeperz by Ash Hunt doing the damage on the dancefloor.
Jurassik is currently resident at four London Breakbeat nights, Supatronix, Spectrum, Nuskoolbreaks.co.uk Monthly and Subsocial and has DJed all over the world with the highlight being appearances for the last two years at the infamous Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. In terms of decknology, Jurassik runs the full gamut of breaks showcasing his eclectic style rangeing from the progressive to the downright evil, taking you through all the twists and turns of breakbeat, from funked up party 12s through glitched out electro and onto body-rocking bassline always trying to push it to the next level.

The residents providing a glint of devilishness are the distorted, techy bleeps of MIKE CUBIST, the bootlicious bounce of IGNITION, the wobbly basslines of PROMO and the throbbing beats and feelgood tech-funk of LEE + MARK MARTIN alongside the always effervescent SIDEKICK MC.
