Hey I know this is an old post but i can't believe no-one's said anything about it. Does listening to loud music damage your ears? Of course it does! Never heard of a rock star or DJ over 40 without tinitus (spelling??) I think that ringing you get after a loud gig just lasts longer and longer and longer.... your top end hearing limit must be lowered because all the little little bits of your ears get blasted by the loud music.. but is your hearing worse? I don't think so cos what you learn and learn to listen for gives you loads more 'quality of hearing' than just having good ears.

Any old people got anything to say?

this can be serious Deafness on the dance floor

Most nightclubs play music at 110 decibels, and the noise there is particularly dangerous because you can't get away from it. As many as 80 per cent of people leaving nightclubs find their ears are buzzing or ringing - a sign that noise levels are above the safe limit.

i know a couple of artists out here in germany that have had to give up mixing or mcing cos of getting tinnitus from badly set up pa's.i'm glad that i've never really had that many problems but it's still important to protect yourself and your hearing as a dj when you go out.most of time deafness creeps up on you & is doesn't happen from one day to the next which makes it worse

yes man its true your ears can only take so much for so long, if you use closed in headphones you don't need the volume so high for mixing in loud venues so this could help. My hearing is still good after years of mixing and raving and i hope it stays that way.
