Bachelors of Science
Hailing from San Francisco, California, the Bachelors of Science are one of the biggest underground acts in the electronica music scene. Their debut album “Science Fiction” on Horizons Music was released in 2008 to critical and commercial acclaim, becoming one of the top selling drum n bass albums of all time, with "Song For Lovers" becoming a liquid drum n bass anthem and the Apex remix of "Strings Track" winning "Best Drum n Bass Track" at the 2009 Beatport Awards.
The Bachelors of Science met out in California beginning in 2000 and rapidly gained airplay from top dj's including Basement Jaxx, DJ Marky, Reid Speed, Brian Gee, Bailey, LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, Annie Mac, High Contrast, Doc Scott, DJ Flight, Alix Perez and more.
Their unique blend of lush strings, rolling beats and soulful vocals has been hailed as “a refreshing musical approach to drum n bass and a return to the true sound of liquid funk”, picking up rave reviews in Mixmag, XLR8A, Knowledge Magazine and more, with their breakout tune "The Ice Dance" featured on the number one selling iphone game "Tap Tap Revenge" and tracks such as "Song For Lovers" garnering over half a million views on YouTube.
In addition to their production, the duo have built a strong following for their rare vibrant uplifting DJ sets which have taken them across the globe performing at Love Parade, Ministry of Sound, Hospitality, Burning Man, BBC Radio, WMC and more alongside such artists as Pendulum, Photek, High Contrast, JuJu, LTJ Bukem, Kode9, Hatcha, Netsky, Cyantific and more. They have also worked on remixes for the likes of Home Video, The XX, Death Cab For Cutie, Royksopp and more.
Hailing from the Windy City, STUNNA (J. Cappo) has been deeply immersed in the Chicago music scene for many years. Schooled in piano study from an early age, his love of jazz music turned him on to the sounds of HERBIE HANCOCK, especially his early-70's work with synthesizers and electronics. At the age of 12, STUNNA acquired a drum machine and an 8-bit sampling keyboard and began to experiment with the jazzier sounds he'd listened to and also with the current sounds of Chicago House that was at the time, in its formative years. A number of years were spent performing in bands on the keyboards and alongside DJs at parties. His discovery of Rap music and the walls of layered samples by groups such as PUBLIC ENEMY fascinated him and he made it his personal mission to dig and find the sources of these diverse sounds he was hearing. STUNNA realized that many of the current sounds within these layers were actually pieces from the jazz and funk he'd heard only a few years before. He was now hooked on the science of connecting his own sounds with various parts of music's funky past. He joined local Chicago funk bands and began working with House producers such as ROY DAVIS JR. in the mid-to-late 90's, playing keys and collaborating on original tracks and remixes. Around this time he began hearing more and more of the sped-up breakbeats of many of his favorite jazz-funk drummers that were now being used by Jungle and Drum+Bass producers. After accumulating many vintage synths and new studio gear, STUNNA delved into creating his own brand of D+B and locked himself in the studio. When he emerged, he'd written over 50 tracks and began DJing out to fine-tune his tracks. Currently, STUNNA continues to work on D+B and DJ's around the United States as well as Europe.
