Hot off the heels of its widely acclaimed launch party back in June, Ivy Lab are excited to bring you the second instalment of “20/20” - a newcomer to the London nightlife calendar which launched in June 2014.
Following on from recent projects for Metalheadz, Brownswood, Ram Records and our long-time partners Critical Music; We’re expanding into throwing future-facing parties on our North London doorstep, where we’ll be showcasing the emerging landscape of fusions between Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Footwork, and Future-Soul.
This batch of early-stage hybrids are often referred to under the stop-gap moniker of ‘Halftime’ - a plain yet useful classification that hints at the essential role that groove halving has taken in exploring the definition of Drum and Bass. At the same time, the dancefloor-centric sonics often employed throughout the history of Drum and Bass are increasingly finding their way into the works of forward thinking Hip-Hop & Future-Soul producers; providing even more material to feed this nascent but tangible movement that operates in the hinterlands between the various genres.
On Wednesday 13th August we bring you our second party, hosted in The Silver Bullet, Finsbury Park - North London’s most charismatic small-capacity gig venue. Ivy Lab members Sabre, Stray & Halogenix are proud to be joined by...
Boasting credits alongside Action Bronson, Jehst & Sa-Ra; Don Leisure & Meta beats a.k.a Darkhouse Fam introduce their trademark brew of G-funk tinged bass weight hip-hop. Following on from their exceptional ‘Brockwild’ EP on forward thinking London imprint 'Earnest Endeavours', the boys from out west make a rare trip up to the capital for their 20/20 headline showcase.
Having cut her teeth as a staff DJ at BBC 1xtra before heading over to Rinse FM, DJ Flight comes prepared with one of the most well researched and rounded selections on the circuit. A veteran DJ with deep roots into the dubplate stacks of bass music royalty. Expect history lessons to bleed into hip-hop futurism with seamless confidence.
Having recently become the latest recruit to Critical Music family, this Surrey based youngster has plenty of momentum carrying him forward after his standout single 'Bay City Ballers Club’ made waves this Spring. Stand by for a selection flavoured with elements of grime, UK hip-hop and tech step DnB fused into a one UK-bass lovechild.
Future Soul & Beats producer El Train syphons the sun-soaked Cali vibe via his Brighton hometown in what must be one of the best catalogues of any UK producer taking on this distinctly American driven sound. In his first appearance in the capital since earning the attention of Soulection recordings DJs, this prolific beatsmith is guaranteed to compliment the mid-summer timing of 20/20’s August instalment.
Looking forward to seeing you all down there!
