Default Reason 5 can not open reason engine in Mavericks OSX

Ive just installed Mavericks OSX on my Mac and now when i try to open Propellerheads Reason 5 i get this error message Can not open Reason Engine, Please re install to make sure reason engine is properly installed. The fact is i know the Propellerheads Reason engine is installed ok because i was just using it fine on Mountain Lion OSX.

If you have any ideas on how to fix this let me know asap or ill have to go back to Mountain Lion.

Propellerheads are not going to patch reason 5 as its so old

This is a statement from Propellerheads

Our initial testing of the new Mac OS X Maverick has not revealed any problems with Reason 7.0.1, ReCycle 2.2 or the Balance audio interface. We are doing more in-depth testing as we speak and will release a more formal compatibility statement as soon as we are done.

Can i help you with anything? PM me I'm always around to help out fellow dubplate members

I've been meaning to pay for Reason 7 and now that my bootleg copy of Reason 5 has stopped working after the Mavericks install, I was wondering if anyone here knows an easy way to upgrade to 7 with my license?

How you can fix the Reason 5 with Mac OS Mavericks is to download Reason 7 for free here http://www.propellerheads.se/download/reason/ Be sure to install this to a different location to your reason 5 or you will overwrite it. Leave the reason 7 in demo mode Launch Reason 5 again and it will work. The other way of course is to just pay for the Reason 7 upgrade here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Propellerhea...words=reason+7

Hope this helps you guys fix Reason 5

I can confirm. The "install 7 demo" method works. I'm running a late 2011 macbook pro with Mavericks. Install 7 demo, rename the reason folder by adding a 7 to it to avoid conflicts with 5, open 7 demo like normal and while it's open install 5 and open it. I then deleted the 7 demo totally, still working fine.

To get Reason 5 to work on Mavericks:
    1) Uninstall Reason 5
    2) Download the Reason 7 demo from Properllerhead
    3) Install and run Reason 7 in demo mode
    4) Install Reason 5 while Reason 7 is STILL OPEN
    5) Run Reason 5 with Reason 7 still open

You only need to do this once. You can uninstall Reason 7 after you get Reason 5 working, it will work from then on.

    Hi there.

I have joined this forum specifically to post the results that I have experienced after reading this post - I'm a firm believer in spreading the love. If this helps others in the same way that it helped me, the world will be a better place.

    So...

I was actually using my trusty yet genuine version of Reason 4. I recently bought a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9 - and, like others, I found that I was getting the message "Can not open Reason Engine, Please re install to make sure reason engine is properly installed."

After considering the option of downgrading the OS, or having to spend more money on more software (thus rendering my copy of Reason 4 mostly useless) I decided that Google would have to be my best friend, and found this forum. I followed the instructions exactly and it worked a treat...

    1) Download the newst demo version of Reason from the Propellerheads site
    2) Install and run the demo in 'demo' mode
    3) Close the demo version
    4) Locate the 'Reason' folder in 'Applications' and rename it (I changed it to 'music software'
    5) Run the Reason demo in 'demo' mode
    6) Install Reason 4 as normal
    7) Close both versions of Reason
    8) Run Reason 4 as normal

    It works a treat.

Hats off to DP user 'Menace'. Good work sir.

    Simon, out.
